Skill Fitness and Fitness programming
Skill related fitness are components important for success
in skillful activities and athletic events; encompasses agility, balance,
coordination, power, reaction time, and speed.
All of these aspects of skill
related fitness also help with health related fitness as they enhance the quality
of life and help with everyday movements. Working on balance, coordination,
speed, and agility has many benefits.

Power:
Power is defined as the ability to produce maximum force in the shortest time. The two components of power are speed and force (strength). A combination of these two components allows someone to produce explosive movements such as jumping, spiking, throwing, and hitting a ball. A good way to test power is the standing long jump test, which can be seen as the background picture for this page of an athlete in the NFL Combine testing his power.

reaction time:
Reaction time is defined as the time required to initiate a response to a given stimulus. Excellent reaction time is required for athletes who participate in track, swimming, boxing, basketball, and football. A great way to test your reaction time is by doing a yardstick test as seen below, also a more advanced way to test reaction time is seen by the athlete below using the reaction machine.

speed:
Speed is the ability to rapidly propel the body or a part of the body from one point to another. Speed is very important for soccer, basketball, football players, and wrestlers. A great way to test for speed would be the 40 yard dash, as shown below.
